My Mentorship Approach
Teaching and mentoring are among my favorite aspects of being a licensed clinical social worker. In both roles, I strive to support students and early‑career clinicians in exploring effective trauma‑informed interventions and addressing key clinical barriers.
I believe good mentorship is a two‑way relationship that requires openness, honesty, respect, and commitment to create meaningful and lasting growth. As a mentor, I strive to be accessible, responsive, supportive, transparent, and collaborative. I value having candid conversations about mentees’ strengths, needs, and preferences so we can tailor our mentorship experience to best support their professional goals.
My role is to provide mentees with opportunities to lead their own EMDR work while offering the appropriate balance of challenge, structure, encouragement, and support as they develop their EMDR expertise. I also aim to help demystify some of the unwritten rules of clinical practice and career development.
My mentorship style reflects a team‑science environment, where giving and receiving feedback is an essential clinical skill. Every few months, I invite feedback from my mentees about how I can better support their work, with the hope of fostering increased comfort in both giving and seeking feedback. Ultimately, my goal is for the mentorship relationship to be as rewarding and supportive for my mentees as it is for me.
If you are wondering whether I am taking new EMDR consultees across the U.S. or internationally, or MSW interns at World Relief Sacramento, please contact me. I admit 1-2 second year MSW students to the CalAIM refugee resettlement trauma-informed case management program. I am always interested in working with new students or early-career clinicians whose interests overlap with my own.
