Sherry Yam, MSW, LCSW
Researcher | Clinician | Educator
Sherry Yam, LCSW, is an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist, EMDR Consultant, and Faculty Member with Trauma Recovery/HAP and the EMDR Institute. She provides EMDR consultation for therapists seeking culturally responsive, trauma‑informed guidance rooted in real‑world clinical and humanitarian experience.
Sherry’s work began in global humanitarian settings across Vietnam, Cambodia, and Mexico, shaping her belief that trauma healing must honor culture, language, and lived experience. Over the past decade, she has trained clinicians nationwide through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, specializing in EMDR for AAPI Veterans, complex trauma, and cross‑cultural case conceptualization. She has served as a STAIR consultant, EMDR consultant at the VA, and webSTAIR consultant with The STAIR Institute.
Based in California, Sherry now directs a statewide refugee resettlement program, leading trauma‑informed care for Arabic-, Pashto-, Dari-, and Russian‑speaking refugees. She also serves on the ESTSS Ukraine Support Task Force, supervising Ukrainian mental health providers working under war‑related conditions — experience that deeply informs her consultation with clinicians serving refugees, immigrants, and survivors of war.
Sherry also teaches Psychology at UC Berkeley and supports creativity in her community by teaching piano to children. Across all her roles, she is committed to expanding access to trauma healing and equipping clinicians to provide effective, culturally attuned EMDR therapy. She was appointed to Co-Chair of the EMDRIA Military Special Interest Group, Contributing Editor and Translator for ISTSS (International Society for Trauma Stress Studies). She has served as the Coordinator NorCal Trauma Recovery Network® from 2023-2025.
